酉の市について(横浜市公式サイトから)
金刀比羅大鷲神社の御祭神は天之鳥船之命の御名から宝を鳥船(鳳凰、即ちおおとり)で、とり十二子の酉をあてられ、酉の市は正しくは鳥街(とりまち)・酉の市ともお酉様ともいって大鷲神社の例大祭です。
古、武将階級のみの祭りであった様ですが、この酉の市の祭事が商人や花街などの根強い開運守護神の信仰が深くなり、毎年11月の酉の日に盛んに斎行されるようになりました。酉の市は12日目に1度巡ってくるので、年によっては2度、3度行われます。
お酉様の熊手は酉(鷲トリ)が取るに通じ取る熊手というので福運をかき集める縁起から喜ばれ、熊手に開運守りをつけ鷲掴みという語源から更に大鷲づかみという縁起にもとづき掻き米(掻き込むの意味)として一般参拝者に授与されています。
Tori no Ichi (from Yokohama City official website):
The deity of Konpira Daikūsha Shrine is Ame no Torifune no Mikoto, whose name is associated with treasures carried by a bird ship (Phoenix, or large bird). The “Tori no Ichi” is also called “Torimachi” or “O-Tori-sama,” and it is the grand festival of Daikūsha Shrine.
Originally, it seems that this festival was only for the samurai class, but over time, the strong faith in the guardian deity of prosperity among merchants and entertainment districts deepened. As a result, Tori no Ichi became a popular event held every year on the day of the rooster (Tori no Hi) in November. Since Tori no Ichi occurs on the 12th day, it sometimes happens twice or three times in a year.
The “O-Tori-sama” kumade (a rake) is considered lucky because “tori” (bird) is associated with “tori” (to take). It symbolizes gathering good fortune, and the kumade is often given to worshipers with a good-luck charm. The term “washi-dzumi” (eagle grasp) is also linked to the good fortune behind the rake, representing the act of gathering prosperity.
